About Ancestors of Denise Arline Gerrow and James Glenn Phillips III
GERROW/JERROW FAMILY BOOK IS COMPLETE - TO ORDER OR FIND OUT MORE INFO, you
can e-mail me through this site. Thanks.
This website lists all the descendents of the oldest known ancestors of
Denise Arline GERROW and her husband, James Glenn Phillips III.
The name GERROW/JERROW is believed to be from the French Hugenot name GUERARD. It
was anglicized when the family fled France, but it is not known how they came to be
in North Ireland. There are 2 other GERROW families that also fled France about the
same time, but I have been unable to make the connections to each other. The family
of Daniel GIRAUD settled in New Rochelle, New York and the spelling changed to GEROW
and that of Jacques GUERARD who settled in Charleston, SC and the spelling changed to
GERROW.
The other ancestors were primarily Scotch-Irish, English, and German. Some of
the ancestors of Arline Lucille MCGEE Gerrow trace back to before the American
Revolution in the United States.
The names are WEISS, HIRST, ROBERTSHAW, MCGEE, JEFFERIS, GUSS, BRINTON, HARVEY,
GETTY, FERGUSON, KEARS, SCHLACK, SALEVSKY.
I certainly cannot take all the credit for the research reflected here. I
have had help from a number of people on many of the lines. Kathy Jerrow,
Harris Gerrow, Ruth Tremper, Barbara Gerrow, Adele Gerrow, Jim Thompson, Meg
Gabiselis, Betty Schnee, Max Salevsky and Marion Mitchell have provided pictures and
information that has made this website possible. And there have been others who are
no longer with us that without their help, I would not have gotten this far. I hope
that their contributions will encourage others to contact me.
Jim is descended from Scottish, German, and English ancestors that I have been able
to trace. As with so many Americans I am right out of the melting pot.
The PHILLIPS family is believed to be of Scottish descent. The original spelling was
with only one L, PHILIPS. Only a few of his descendents kept that spelling.
The SAUNDERS, WASHER, and WOOD lines all trace to Virginia, and as a result of the
Civil War, many records were lost during the fighting.
His mother's family in the United States can be traced primarily to Pittsburgh,
Pennsylvania and Zanesville, Ohio.
I welcome any additions or corrections.
